With a decent start of a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and attracted 12.17 million viewers, the series got off to a good start.. In weeks two and three the ratings fell to14% and then another 12% in weeks two and three. Showing on Wednesday nights, the ratings kept dropping and hit a low of a 1.5 in the demo and 6.8 million.
As the numbers were falling consistently The Defenders was moved by CBS to a Friday night, an evening with fewer viewers. ICBS would have been satisfied if most fans had followed and the show could sustain the Wednesday numbers.
The move failed and the remaining six installments fell even lower, hitting a 1.1 in the demo. The already-cancelled Medium. had done better.
It was a long shot to think that it would succeed by moving it.
